Martha C. Hall
Fabric Artist and Quiltmaker

Martha C. Hall is a fabric artist and quilt maker, dyeing fabric, stitching fabric, and quilting layers to create contemporary quilt art.

Martha’s quilts include vivid use of color, line that creates movement, and often an underlying grid, working together to create a strong graphic image. Many of her quilts contain her personal symbol of the circle, usually “split” to represent imperfection, dichotomy, and duality. Splitting, and then reassembling, the circle and utilizing the gridded format is the artist’s attempt to organize the chaos of her thoughts and ideas. The following quote by Louise Bourgeois sums up the inherent appeal of this instinctive approach:

‎"The grid is very peaceful. Nothing can go wrong. Everything is complete."

Martha earned a B.A. in Studio Art from Montclair State University (NJ), where she studied textile design and painting. Her work has been exhibited regionally and nationally in galleries, museums, art centers, and juried art and quilt shows. Many of her quilts and fiber pieces hang in private collections.
